Week: Period: UNIT 2: LIFE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE Lesson 2: A Closer Look 1 I/ OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students can: - Pronounce words containing the clusters /bl/ and /cl/ correctly in isolation and in context - Talk about life in the countryside 1. Knowledge: a. Grammar : Simple present , Simple progressive b. Lexical items : - Life on the countryside c. Pronunciation: -Clusters: /bl/ and cl/ 2. Skills: - Listening, Speaking, Reading,Writing and interactive skills 3. Attitude: - Cooperation, respect, having right and friendly attitudes with friends, teachers in the new school 4. Quality and competence: - Be confident and friendly with the new school environment - Develope listening, speaking skills and cooperative interaction II/ TEACHING AIDS (MATERIALS) 1.Teacher’s preparation: - Lesson plan, Pictures, posters ,textbook,CD-MP3(Computer-Multi projector/cassette/ “sách mềm”) and other materials 2. Students’ preparation: - Textbook, notebook, school things. III/ WORKING ARRANGEMENTS( WAYS OF WORKING ) - Pair work , individual work, group work, T-WC IV/ TEACHING PROCEDURE: 1-Greeting`and checking students’ adtendence: Total: In: ......... Out: .......... . 2-Checking the old lesson 3-New lesson: Teacher’s activities Students’activities I.Warm up(5'): Brainstorming ( adjectives to describe life in the countryside) - Divide the class into 2 two teams -Ask ss from 2 teams turn by turn go to board to write adjectives about life in the countryside - In 4 minutes the team with more right words is the winner. - Introduce the new lesson - Take part in the game in 2 teams I.The new leson A.Vocabulary (20') * Teaching vocabulary - Teacher use different techniques to teach vocabulary (situation, realia) - Follow the seven steps of teaching vocabulary * Checking vocab: Slap the board - brave (adj) Dũng cảm - nomadic (adj) Có tính du mục - vast (adj) Rộng lớn - blackberry (n): Quả mâm xôi - hay (n): Cỏ khô - bloom (n): (v): Sự ra hoa Nở hoa - Repeat in chorus and individually - Copy all the words 1.Listen and repeat the words (P18) - Have Ss listen to the recording and repeat the words. - Make sure that they pronounce the words with the correct stress partners. - Check understanding of these words. - Elicit ideas from the Ss. Say. for example, “Give me an example of something vast”. - Go through all the words in this way to make sure understands them. - Ss listen to the recording and repeat the words 2. Put the words in 1 into the appropriate category. Some words can be used in more than one category (p18) -Get Ss to work individually. - Ss compare their answers with a partner and then discuss as a class. - There may be some variations in the answers. For a more able class, encourage Ss to explain why they choose that word for the category. 3. Match the nouns/ noun phrases in the box with each verb( P18) -Make sure Ss understand the meanings of the verbs first. There may be some confusion about the difference between ‘pick’ and ‘pick up’. -Explain that ‘pick; is the specific verb used for collecting fruit, vegetables or flowers through the action is the same as the more general term ‘pick up’. - Ask Ss then work independently or in pairs. When they have finished, let them exchange their answers with a partner/ another pair. - Then T elicits the correct answer. -Work individually 2.Key: To describe Words People Friendly, brave, boring, nomadic, colourful Life Slow,hard, boring, inconvenient, peaceful, nomadic, colourful scenery Colourful, vast, peaceful Work independently or in pairs 3.Key: ride: a horse, a camel put up: a tent, a pole collect: hay, water herd: the buffaloes, the cattle pick: wild flowers, apples 4.Use the words from 1 and 3 to complete the sentences. Remember to use the correct form of the verbs( P18) - Ask Ss to look at the sentences and decide if an adjective or a verb is missing. -This narrows down the areas of words they need to refer to. -Have Ss then complete the sentences by themselves. - Check the answers as a class - Work individually Key: 1. picking 2. inconvenient, collect 3. herd 4. ridden, brave 5. peaceful 6. nomadic 7. vast 8. put up, hard B. Pronunciation (15'') /bl / and / cl/ 5. Listen and repeat the words... (P19) - Ask Ss to listen and repeat. -Pause the recording to drill difficulty items. -Have Ss say the words individually Listen and repeat 6. Listen and circle the word you hear ( P19) - Have Ss listen and circle the words. - Have Ss do the activity in pairs and challenge each other to choose the correct words - Do the task individually 6.Key : 1. blame 2. blasts 3. blue 4.clock 5.close 7. Listen to the sentences and repeat (p19) - Have Ss look at the sentences and underline the words with clusters /bl/ and /cl/ first. - Play the tape - Have Ss then listen and repeat. - Listen and repeat Consolidation (3') -Ask ss to find some more words that have these two sounds/cl/ and /bl/ IV. Homework (2') - Learn by heart all the new words. - Guide ss how to do Exs (workbook) - Prepare: Unit 2: Closer Look 2 - Answer teacher's questions. - Say out the words - Take note
